Steam Humidifier Giveaway & Review

Wintertime and dry air can destroy an otherwise healthy respiratory system. Overnight, chest and nasal congestion can occur leaving you feeling sick the next morning. Sometimes adding a little moisture to the air can make quite a difference.  This is where a humidifier can be a very useful addition to the home.

I was recently sent the Air O Swiss S450 Steam Humidifier to review.   This humidifier uses traditional vaporizer technology (boiling water) with a modern design and easy to use controls.  This is a great humidifier.

By boiling the water you not only create REAL steam but you also kill bacteria, microbes, and break down minerals, which helps reduce calcium mineral deposits from appearing both inside and outside our your machine.  This is truly the safest way to add moisture to the air.  Since I have a toddler, I truly appreciate that even though the water is boiling, the steam that comes out is warm and will not burn to the touch.

Because of its unique self-cleaning De-calcification Mode cleaning is a breeze.  Not having to buy Silver Ion Sticks or Demineralization cartridges, like the Ultrasonic requires, makes the Air O Swiss S450 the most affordable.  There is also no need to purchase those expensive filters; just an Anti-Mineral Pad.  The Anti-Mineral Pad reduces excessive calcification of the steam tray as well as the frequency of necessary decalcification.

I was pleasantly surprised at the small size of the humidifier when I received the box.  For something that is supposed to cover 850sqft, I expected something more clunky and inconvenient.  The instructions were simple and concise.  Set up was really easy!  I had it up and running in under 10 minutes! 

There are some great features on this machine!  There’s a place for fragrance, a timer, an econo setting, and more!  Not only does the machine tell you the percentage of humidity in your current surroundings, but you have the opportunity to give the machine a “desired” percentage, so you can control how humid your space becomes.

Wonderful Features also include:

Unlike the Ultrasonic, this steamer does not allow you to direct the flow of steam exiting the unit. It just floats straight up out of the top.  This is not a huge issue because you have to be mindful about your humidifiers placement no matter which machine you are using.

The water level is difficult to see but is a moot point because of the automatic shut off sensor; when the water levels get too low the light will turn on and the machine will shut off.  Which brings us to refilling the machine.  Refilling the tank is not only easy but it does not drip as you remove it from the base and carry it to the sink, which is a minor issue when refilling the Ultrasonic.

I was a little disappointed at how loud the machine was. It’s not as loud as some I’ve had in the past, but do not expect it to be silent.  The cord is also a little short, which makes meeting the space requirement a challenge.  The instructions state that the machine should be at least 4 feet away from walls or anything else.  This is a little hard to do for me, as my house is really small.  However, if I had a larger space, I would still be limited by the cord.  I don’t run the machine constantly, so I’m not too worried about it being closer than it should be to the walls.  I’ve checked them after use and they do not seem to be damp. 

Do not let those small complaints turn your eye from this machine.  It still does a great job of humidifying my house.  My family is definitely breathing better!  I only run the machine at night and filling it once lasts me two nights, which is perfect.  I love that I don’t have to put salt in it and I love that it’s large enough to not only last one night, but two!  I’m also really happy that I can leave it in the hallway and it humidifies my every room. 

Overall,  the Air O Swiss Steam Humidifier is definitely a great humidifier, and I would recommend adding it to your home!
