The Business of Being Born

Like all first time moms, when I was expecting M I had no clue as to what to expect.  So for all of you expecting Mommies out there, I have the perfect documentary for you to watch!  Its called The Business of Being Born.  It is a documentary (produced in 2008) created to educate women about their choices in childbirth, and raise questions about maternity care in the U.S.

This documentary totally opened my eyes!  After seeing this film, we decided to find a midwife but (hesitantly) still give birth in the hospital.  However for the birth of our next child we will get to experience our very first home birth!  We are very excited about this decision. 

Our experience at the hospital was just awful.  The staff was rude and pushy, they were even borderline bullying.  Nobody knows what you or your child need more than you!  Your are the mother and no one can force you to do things that you do not want to do; even if they say you do not have a choice!  Child birth is not a one size fits all deal.  However most doctors (not all) treat it that way.  They have to "be in control" of YOUR delivery.  Which is directly related to the rising number of unnecessary C-sections and inductions. The way you give birth is your choice; your right.  If you chose to have a C-section because you feel that is the right thing for you then do it, but don't be pressured into making a choice against how you feel.  If you want a water birth, or a home birth, or whatever your choose, just make sure it is your decision.
