Bath vs. Shower

M used to love baths.  She was such a water baby.  But after showering with me a few times all that stopped.  When she was about 18 months she no longer wanted to sit in the tub and play; she wanted to stand in the tub and play.  Let me tell you, it is so much easier to get her clean.  No more dumping water over her head, trying to avoid her eyes.  No more bending to wash her.  And it also allowed me to introduce washing herself earlier. We found a set of two shower heads. One mounts as usual and the other is a hand held shower head that can slip into a suction cup mount. The water can be diverted to either head or to both heads at once (great for showering with a parent).  M doesn't like the water hitting her in the face from above, so I mounted the hand held shower head on the wall slightly above her head.  The water doesn't hit her in the face, but it is high enough so she can lean back to get her hair wet.  We also went to the store and let her pick out a special shower mat.  She still needs assistance washing and I NEVER leave her unattended but it is so much more efficient.

Do your kids still take baths?  At what age do you plan on encouraging showers?  Please feel free to leave a comment.

  1. I don't have kids, but I did grow up as the oldest child of several children. My mom never forced us to take a shower, we just eventually wanted to take one on our own. Basically she would tell us she takes showers and dad takes showers and would create curiosity. Eventually we wanted to try it out ourselves.
